Positive Affirmations in my Life: #RussellSimmons, #LesBrown and #ChicoChapman

10578508_10152533256330733_146024955_n

Your daily agenda will generally follow your daily attitude. Consequently, your “routine attitude” or practices may be learned or developed by what you’ve obs
erved in others.

In other words you are a product of your environment.

And, as much as I’d like to ALWAYS be positive, it sometimes feels impossible/depending on the challenge. I am admittedly a victim of the reverse effect, whereas my attitude might reflect my day. (Or a even reflection of the previous day) #baggage A lot of the leaders who I know would say “stay in the moment” and “your past does not equal your future.” They’d also allow for apologies and go out of their way to turn a negative into a positive. Chico is that way; his life is “no harm/no foul” and “its all good,” even as I KNOW shit aint that simple and that there are past struggles we can both shake our heads at. Les Brown often tells his story of growing up orphaned and the poverty he knew as a child, It seems that ALL of us know Mrs Mamie Brown, lol, even if you haven’t been trained by Les.

Russell Simmons has his own way of addressing things, having adopted the Yogi’s life. Working with Russell early on, you’d swear this is another person! But Russ is the first person I’ve seen in that way of life; and the first I’ve seen who can easily waver from an intelligent conversation to that of a common vulgar street [ninja]. I wonder sometimes; split personalities, or just creative genius at work? Not that cursing is a sign of misery or pain, but clearly not what you’d hear from a billionaire icon/the circle Russell has grown into, like it or not. One thing I appreciate from Russell is when he goes-in during some off-road, candid interview. The things he’s talking about are crystal clear and spot-on, far and apart from the days he did the interviews, weeded-up and off the chain.

But to my point, these men are such a positive influences in my life, all of whom represent some strong male-figure affirmations that I’m with. No matter what they’re doing; no matter their position on things, I’m a student as well as a follower of these gentlemen.

10507015_10152540379550733_2492778366985743409_oChico Chapman is closer to me these days/closer than other leadership influences in my life, (since he’s not currently out on tour with Jill or Mary or OMG Girlz) working side by side with me on certain things, and yet his influence in heavy; he may understand or have a greater perspective on an adverse situation… he may be able to dissect it from varying angles, but no matter WHAT the challenge, he knows how to come in that room and LIGHT IT UP. I agree with that way of life 1000%

So can I come in the room and “light it up” as he does? Well, its 50/50. Some days are better than others. So much on my mind…responsibilities and past burdens on my shoulders, plus a legacy to fulfill; and my focus may reflect something else to others. That “focus” might be misunderstood, especially to a person who doesn’t practice the discipline of focusing.” And yet, there should be a balance, whereas every time I face someone or when I’m in the presence of others, I want to cast an air of joy & happiness. So I am still “unlearning” a practice of old; that (don’t want none, won’t be none) protective shield I have long embraced. It also takes great discipline, humility and compassion to shake off, ignore or sweep aside some other element that has (or may have) an impact on your day. Some of us may have a boss or co-worker that we have to face and don’t want to. It could even be a classmate or a teacher. To get real extreme, it could be your spouse who you argued with last night. Either way, who wants the miserable feelings that come with or which result from miserable experiences? Unless you’re a freak for pain. I know just a few people who can come out of adversity and still hug their adversary. Divorced, with no kids, and its “all good” later on. As if marriage was a “trial run” or “temporary. ”Some others might say, “Hell naw” (and they’d cuss their ex-spouse) recalling the big costs involved, upset about how so many people came great distances to be at their wedding… the disgrace and embarrassment. Just so much to swallow from a failed marriage. Of course, having conveniences like loads of money and forgiving parties involved has a baring how things stay friendly.

My friends Russell Simmons, Les Brown and Chico Chapman all come from tough beginnings. These are deep brothers, leaders who have had, (and who have now) great impact on my life.

So, in the back of my mind I’m asking myself the question: “how would Russell Simmons deal with it?” “How would Les Brown deal with it?” “How would Chico Chapman handle it?”

Within these gentlemen is a certain discipline, a certain Mojo, a certain compassion, a certain understanding and a certain aggression. They are all progressive, successful and thank God they are all a part of my life. And so, like those miserable references that are so easy to embrace, I can reach back or forward (or in the now) and I can embrace these brothers and ask myself how would they handle it? Today, each of these men lights up a room when they come into it. So I should follow suit!

Now how does this relate to you?

Find those references in your life who light up a room! I may not know who you’re talking about, and the world may not know either, but to you these individuals light your fire. These individuals have tantamount discipline and they exercise amazing aggressive skill sets. So then these are the positive references in your life, perfect for mentoring. Think about all the good they do and all the people who they affect and follow those footsteps. Godspeed to you this week #Relentless

YOUR TOOLKIT TO AVOID GETTING SHOT UP BY POLICE By Relentless Aaron

I don't believe people can swallow the fact that this guy Mike Brown was a "thug," with a thug attitude, which was probably the reason why things escalated... why he inevitably got shot up. If you're street-smart, and if you watched that clip of what he did in the store; the menacing approach on the shop-owner, then you know what we're dealing with. Do I wish this was a cut and dry conflictt? No, I wish this conflict never happened. But they happen all the time; this one just cScreenshot 2014-08-20 13.10.31aught a wave of energy. No, I do not in any way agree with the killing of someone over "an attitude" or a "cocky walk in life." No I do not agree that a man's skin color, or what he's wearing should be indicators of danger or malice aforethought. But as I've been saying "KARMA IS A BITCH."

No question that there is disenfranchisement, inequality, abuse of authority and on and on, all the way down to the need for reparations. But it feels like every time there's an incident, the same conversations come up. Its as if we're all waiting for the NEXT incident so that we can have this big family reunion once again. You know, with our grandfathers (of civil rights) and our mothers (those women in media) and so many outspoken community leaders... and none of you are on the right track. You're all beating that same dead horse, and this will all be forgotten in a few days. And thats the unfortunate after effect. There will be some foundation created in his name. Maybe a street will be named after him, we're already branding the hands up/don't shoot to his name. Yeah yeah, a marketer's dream being realized. But the real answers are missing. These are answers that I've been talking about for months.

Look, if you don't get it through your thick skulls now, you never will. You may not want to hear this, but I'mma say it anyway: This will never end. Robbery will never end. Whites shootings Blacks, Blacks shooting Blacks, and loud music that embraces it all... none of it will end. And this is coming from an optimist; from someone who speaks his wildest dreams into existence. So don't be surprised when the next kid is slain by a cop. Don't be surprised when a manager's racial rant is recorded and shared on radio. The shock of "OMG" is mute at this point and the wake up call has been made. That life that you want, the White one with the picket fence, the dog and 2 kids is available if you can pay for it, and if its gated-in. But the reality is that everyone who dreams of it cannot have it. No peace and love amongst us animals. Probably why I suggest number 1) We need to be selective and savvy about the people we allow into our lives. And we need to be receptive to the red flags they wave. That goes for those IN the family, as well as outside. 2) We need to be vigilant and not take life for granted. Vigilance not only addresses 'be prepared for come-what-may,' but too, it addresses what you allow into your mind and body. Don't be brainwashed by the beats and drums and rhymes... the breasts, the money and the fame. Your passion for living should be founded on some moral center that is about progress and some contribution to others in your circle. 3) The more value you have in your life, the more you need a "core group" and mentors in your life to help keep you sharp and on point. We're talking financial, physical, social and spiritual. Yes, master your craft and be the best you can be. Yes, study hard and don't let anything get in your way. But, by all means, stop "trending" your life around what others are chasing. If you're already pursuing your greatness, then continue on, but also continue to improve. If being "polarizing" was the way for you to get that initial attention, and that initial "lick" then make that work for you and "turn-up" to the next level, and continue to refine and tweak and better yourself. If being a leader is you, or if being a "soldier" to some cause" is you, those are just a few of your options. However if you don't aspire for any amazing amount of success; if you merely want to survive, to learn, to grow and to love, then by all means do that to the best of your ability. Keep that winning attitude. After all, most people that are following these suggestions are not catching bullets from police. They;re not walking in the streets. There is nothing too random about their existence. For if you matter to YOU, it should also be apparent to others, and you will matter to THEM. And that includes law enforcement.

Screen Shot 2014-08-23 at 7.26.23 PMOn that note about "things getting in your way"... don't let anything (within reason) get in your way. Naturally, you're not gonna let someone walk all over you. But you hafta be savvy enough to know when to hold and when to fold, when to walk away and when to run. I don't care if you personally feel this is "licking boots" or "cooning." Your mind is not developed enough to comprehend what I'm sharing here. But, if a cop is coincidentally in your way, think about flipping that humble switch. Inhale more of that good oxygen. Be the eye of the storm (the calmest part). Get through your situation ALIVE by obeying, by consideration, and depending on the situation, a "yes sir" or "yes ma'am" might work out just fine. If that doesn't work, hum or sing "Amazing Grace," because (for whatever reason) you need Grace at THAT moment. So call for it. Bottom line, live that blessed life you were put here to live. For the most part, set aside health issues and isolated circumstances, you will live the life you're promised.

“I DON’T CARE ABOUT MICHAEL BROWN’S DEATH” – By Relentless Aaron

“I DON’T CARE ABOUT MICHAEL BROWN’S DEATH”

I DON’T CARE ABOUT MICHAEL BROWNS DEATH…
NOT AS MUCH AS I CARE ABOUT Michael Brown’s “LIFE”
I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE TOWN OF FERGUSON
AS MUCH AS I CARE ITS PEOPLE, IT’S STRIFE

But if I HAVE SOME SOLUTIONS to share
Even as you all SCREAM AND SHOUT
What if we could avoid MOST of the nonsense
WOULD YOU HEAR WHAT I’M TALKIN ABOUT?

Why do You PROTEST after the fact
And yet BEFORE, no focus on PREVENTION
Why do we always ARGUE OVER SPILT MILK
Instead of LEARNING the art of CONFRONTATION?

Would you hear me past the cries and chanting?
Would you see me past the cigarettes you loot?
When I tell you we need to take some responsibility
Would you hear me, or would you not give a hoot?

Listen, This has NOTHING to do with POLICE
And, this has little to do with authority
THIS IS ABOUT SAVING OUR LIVES
Whether its a cop, a neighbor or immediate family

Its said you should know when to hold, when to fold
when to walk away, and when to run
but I got a better quote for you today,
the one who rules is the one with the gun!
#RelentlessAaron

THANKS FOR TELLING THE TRUTH! WE NEED TO HEAR IT!
This was SPOT ON. Cudos to you for telling the truth. People need to hear it. They are hurting, yes. But its so much deeper than your rant. There are so many out there who do NOT have the tools or mental capacity to handle such interactions (with police or anyone else). Remember, this is NOT about POLICE… harm may come to you from ANY direction. Hell, Marvin Gayes dad shot him! We need to know how to deal with CONFRONTATION from ANY direction. Theres no excuse for the way police attack folk. And the rioting and looting is senseless as well. But we can stop it before it starts. We can take the gun and bullets out of their hands before they use them.

 RELENTLESS: FINE TUNED

Unfortunately, its not as cut & dry, just to say White Cop/Black Victim. Theres more to the story. Ego. Arrogance. Pride. Straight up belligerence. However, that aside many folks, no matter what color, do not have the human skillets enough to know how to deal with confrontation when it comes their way. They deal with it the best they know how, and many times that winds up with a bad outcome. How YOU grow up is irrelevant to how the NEXT person grew up. You have certain resources others don’t have. You may be BIGGER than an attacker. (Potential Resource) You may be quicker than an attacker (Potential resource) You may possess a certain level of patience. Or a gesture you make or inflection in your voice… depending on the situation, that could be your resource. A damned SMILE could disarm someone. But another person might not be as lucky. When a car crosses over the median, we need to know how best to deal with it. THAT is the issue here/neither a Black or White issue, but an issue of danger about to come your way. I know we can’t stop that. But we can stop how we HANDLE a situation. How do we help the prospect-victim BEFORE he/she catches a hot one? What details and practices must they know to get out of a situation? Oh yeah, you can bet your ass theres racism and bullying and abuses of authority. Thats reality. We need to know/exercise certain defenses for that. But as for what MIGHT happen? I’d like to keep as a HYPOTHESIS and not the INEVITABLE. Save our sons and daughters. Show, tell, teach them how to KNOW WHEN TO HOLD, KNOW WHEN TO FOLD, KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY, and WHEN TO RUN. Some will get hurt REGARDLESS. But others can be saved by my theory. #peace Now what I really wanna know, is the video in the convenience store Michael Brown??? OH BOY!!!! Another conversation altogether!

5 Steps To Having More Confidence In Your Life

I felt this would be very inspiring to someone out there. We need AFFIRMATIONS if we’re gonna stay SPOT-ON with our principals and goals… if we’re stay on track with our life’s purpose.

Details on My Community Work Over The Past Years…

IN JANUARY of 2011, I BEGAN A LOCAL FUNDRAISER to help with local, community-related initiatives. To date, I've helped raise money for a local free health clinic called Helping Hands, a battered women's shelter known as Phoenix Pass, a teen mom organization known as Comizia Care, the Rockdale Emergency Relief Fund, and as of late, we installed a 2 month-long initiative to help the Glass Family, who suffered in a tragic fire where 4 of 5 children perished/this area's greatest tragedy. We don't merely raise money for charity, but also raise awareness for initiatives, such as our organ-donor drive that brought attention to Baby Mason, also a local Conyers, Georgia resident who needed a liver since birth. Here's a clip to tell you more about Mason.

Mason has since received his new liver and must deal with the life-long challenge to survive with the same.
No. I don't work FOR Starbucks, and the green giant could probably care less about me and my tiny energy. But the community here is a giant one (in terms of good wills, good hearts and incredibly giving). I've grown to love the Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia community and where others might cry or complain, you all might know me more as a man of action; a "doer."
I do what I can to help out.
During the past year or so I have since recognized my calling, one that merges all of my past experiences with producing/promoting stage shows, as well as my television production/since all the shows here at Starbucks are recorded live. Ultimately, I'd like to have a team of young folk who can manage what I've developed so that I may spend more time writing books or servicing a list of clients. But thus far, I am the chief, cook & bottle-washer of this endeavor. Starbucks comes out of pocket for virtually nothing; (probably why its worked so well for more than a year.)

Here's a deeper look at what I've accomplished thus far:
https://bit.ly/15vUUf6

And here's the latest e-zine, detailing our August 3rd event: https://bit.ly/1akfOFI

We've also set up a community Facebook Page to help expose the issues and needs of the Rockdale County community (and beyond) so that giving and being aware of the needs of others is easier to find. One may reach out DIRECTLY to this initiatives and help since we do not collect any money for these organizations. CHARITY ATLANTA

YOU MADE IT!

pr-ps6832Do you know that you are already the winner? Yes, its true that out of close to 180 million other sperm, you won! These were others who fought to survive… others who fought to exist. You won that challenge, that fight of simply becoming!

THERE’S MORE:
Do you know that there were 6 trillion decisions involved (amongst your cells & genes) in order for you to be “whole?” That is, the working, breathing, living, healthy human being you are? Decisions like you having 2 eyes instead of one. Decisions as to how many fingers and toes you’d have… whether or not you’d have straight or coarse hair, or even a working liver. Those odds are pretty extreme if you ask me. (Well, maybe not the hair)
Then maybe you want to add to that equation your successes and those other odds in your life that you have overcome in order to be where you’re at and to have achieved what you have achieved. Bottom line, folks we are truly anointed and blessed and how many of us take that for granted all the time? So my reminder to you today is to count your blessings and start with the biggest ones. The biggest blessings start with the fact that you have arrived on this planet a healthy human being, with potential that is greater than you ever imagined. #Relentless

Monday Morning Workout?

10566645_10152526213000733_711427907_nTHIS MORNING I DIDN’T WAKE UP MYSELF, she did. 6 months and going strong, and I’m laying there with pleasure-filled eyes rolling back in my head, wondering if she will be this way in 3 years, 6 years,10 years? I lifted myself to my elbows and she pushed me back down and stopped what she was doing to say

“relax.”

She eventually brandished that satisfied smile and left our nest for work while I rested for another hour.

By default my body pulls me out of bed, into my workout clothes; off to Planet Fitness, Strutting in through their doors as if my workout began much earlier than 4 AM, I’m already doin too much on the treadmill, my comfy-wireless headphones filling my ears with 50 Cent worth of gangsta rap while various TV screens glistened with images, news and music videos. I’m suddenly looking at Michael Jackson in his “You Rock My World” video, next to that are figures being profiled, and below the TV monitors is also one other member in the gym. She’s shapely and “gettin her walk on.” I hopped off of the treadmill after 10 minutes and I am already squatting with 300 pounds on my shoulders. another 300 push-ups and just as many crunches before I hit the showers. Before I know it I’m bouncing out of PF and Billy Joel is crooning is “Honesty” song over my $3000 hi-fi sound system/way overboard for my Mercedes coupe, but such is my life. And now I am in my office, my coffee is handed to me and I’m recounting the last few hours.

SO NOW THAT MY COFFEE IS TAKING EFFECT…

Heres how my morning REALLY went. My iPhone woke me up with this purposefully annoying siren. And it’s so annoying that I ignore it for at least five minutes. I gathered myself and rose up out of bed only to experience slight dizziness, that feeling you get when you wanna lay back down and call in sick. So I did lay back down and a few minutes later I’m giving it another try. This time it’s not the alarm that wakes me up but my own concerns about bills, identifying new sponsors for my weekly jazz show, and other activities this week. So then maybe it’s not my own energy that woke me but desperation and responsibility? Yes I did make my way into Planet Fitness but it was only after falling asleep just three hours earlier on couple of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.

Yes that was me in the parking lot with the intentions of a midnight workout but eventually with the reality of 4 AM sluggish start.

That treadmill was real, I strolled until I trotted. And I trotted until I strolled again. On the TV screen it was Chris Brown on the monitor/not Michael Jackson. My lying eyes were still blurry by this time, as though I’d been drinking, and nothing on the screen was real. Those figures that were profiled were mugshots from crimes during the past 24 hours. That “shapely woman” was actually quite overweight and holding herself up as she gave it her best try on the treadmill. Meanwhile, my workout was nothing but a quickie this morning; no 300 pound deadlift, no 300 crunches… not even one push-up. That would have to wait for tonight because this morning I’m barely making it. If not for this protein drink I might not even be on the treadmill. I might’ve kept my ass in the bed and rationalized my need for sleep. But the truth is that quick walk and that quick shower brought me back to life. In my trusty RV (not the dreamy Mercedes coupe I imagined) The truth is there is no such exciting “wake up” in my life these days. The truth is my office is STARBUCKS! I did make it to Starbucks and I am enjoying this coffee, BLESSED TO BE ALIVE, and living up to Billy Joel’s “Honesty” I AM ALL THE WAY REAL ON MONDAY. Relentless

PURSUING MY GREATNESS

“I GOTTA TAKE A LITTLE TIME… A LITTLE TIME TO LOOK AROUND ME…

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! Happy Sunday to you. I expect that everyone is healthy, happy and maturing towards their life’s purpose. My teacher Les Brown dropped a real meaningful message yesterday “This is the day to confront yourself.” And he was talking about “radical change” and strengthening your determination in pursuing your greatness. One thing that has always fueled me and kept me on my chartered course is the pursuit of my greatness. Les put that seed in my mind many years ago, and it never left. It just needs fertilization every now and then. Because I am a person without the usual “structures” in my life, and that I’m creeping in the direction of affirming such structures, the inference of PURSUING MY GREATNESS has great meaning for me. It means WAKING UP ON PURPOSE. It means EXERCISING WITH PURPOSE. It means EATING WITH PURPOSE. It means the people I talk with and the real time I spend must be spent ON PURPOSE. And lest I forget LOVING ON PURPOSE? Thats on the radar in my personal life, but in the meantime I can share that love in other ways. For, if you’re not loving others, whats the meaning here? One thing I need to refine is SPEAKING ON PURPOSE. I tend to be glib and sarcastic at times because it many times hides the hurtful truth in a situation. So thats my way of coping; HUMOR. So there you have it, not so perfect/this entrepreneur you know. But do you love me tho. Thats just a question I’ll put out there to see if you’re reading. To see if you care. For I am GREATNESS. And I am… Relentless
